Jim Pfrogner, with only minimal non-club tournament experience, used a deft putting touch to turn the 70th Maryland State Seniors championship into a one-man show at Bethesda Country Club yesterday. The Rolling Road Golf Club member from Catonsville finished at par with 36-34--70, and won by three strokes.
Course renovations made a different playing field for those who had played it in the past, and although the general layout drew rave reviews, those who found themselves on the wrong side of tough pin placements had some putting woes. The results sent some scores soaring.
Pfrogner, seeing the course for the first time, encountered none of these problems, using just 27 putts.
