Collision of pickup, auto results in second death in 17 days at crossing Fulton man, 56, dies as car is struck where Guilford, Pindell School roads meet

THE BALTIMORE SUN

A Fulton man died yesterday afternoon after his car was struck by a pickup truck that police said ran a stop sign in Simpsonville -- 17 days after an accident at that same intersection killed a 64-year-old woman.

Police said that Edward Mark Padow, 56, of the 7100 block of Pindell School Road was driving a 1985 Nissan 240SX north on Pindell School Road toward Route 32 about 3: 30 p.m.

A white Chevrolet pickup, driven by Jorge Arturo Bristan Griffith, 23, of the 1000 block of Madison Court, Annapolis, was heading east on Guilford Road and drove through a large stop sign, striking Padow's car broadside, police said.

Police said Padow was pronounced dead at the scene and Griffith was flown by helicopter to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was listed in critical condition.

About an hour after the accident, police studied the crash scene. The spray-painted markings noting the impact point of the Aug. 24 crash were only feet from yesterday's collision.

In the August crash, a Ford Windstar van drove through the same stop sign and hit a Chevrolet Suburban truck.

A passenger in the Ford, Kee Kim, 64, was taken to Howard County General Hospital in Columbia, where she died.

"It is unusual that the same exact accident would happen twice )) with the same circumstances," said Sgt. Karen Shinham, a department spokeswoman.

Shinham said police would likely step up stop sign enforcement efforts.
