The Anne Arundel County Department of Health temporarily closed three food-service establishments because of emergency circumstances discovered during inspections between Aug. 16 and 31.

Ciao, 51 West St. in Annapolis, was closed for a day Aug. 24 because of an overflowing grease trap. McDonald's restaurant, 2130 Generals Highway in Annapolis, was closed for a day Aug. 25 because of a sewage overflow. And KFC, 1043 Route 3 North in Gambrills, was closed Aug. 31 for a longer period by an electrical fire.

Health workers inspected 120 restaurants and other food-service establishments during the period and found 25 with critical food-safety violations that were corrected immediately.

They found multiple violations at two places.

The 7-Eleven at 500 Quarterfield Road in Severn was cited for not adequately cooking and reheating food and not holding it at the proper temperature. The China Wok restaurant at 1017 Bay Ridge Ave. in Annapolis was faulted for food workers not washing their hands and for not holding food at the proper temperature.
