Allen Drury,a longtime Washington correspondent who drew on his knowledge to weave tales of political intrigue, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel "Advise and Consent," died of heart failure Wednesday, his 80th birthday, in Tiburon, Calif.

Lord Rothermere,73, the last of the English press barons who built his family firm into a billion-dollar media empire, died Tuesday in London of a heart attack.

The third Viscount Rothermere owned the Daily Mail, the Mail on Sunday and London's Evening Standard, and dominated England's press world for more than 30 years.

Dr. Harrie Rogers Chamberlin,78, a member of the White House Advisory Committee on Mental Retardation under President John F. Kennedy, died of cancer Monday in Chapel Hill, N.C.
