Oleg Prokofiev, 69, whose work as a painter and sculptor was often overshadowed by his championship of the music of his composer father, Sergei, died of a heart attack Aug. 20 while vacationing on the island of Guernsey in the English Channel.

Frances Hamerstrom, 90, a biologist and author who appeared on such television shows as "What's My Line?" and "Late Night with David Letterman," died Saturday in Port Edwards, Wis. She was the author of 12 books, including three for children.

Thomas Roosevelt "T. R." Sanders, 92, a pioneering black

Mississippi educator, died Friday of cardiac arrest in Hollandale, Miss. Sanders was the first black person to receive a master's degree in education administration in Mississippi. He began teaching in 1934 at Hollandale Colored School, now Simmons High School, and served as principal from 1942 to 1975.
