A Prince George's County man accused of impersonating a police officer and stopping traffic on U.S. 50 was arrested yesterday after a motorist followed him and called police.
Scott M. Barber, 20, of the 7900 block of Riggs Road in Hyattsville, was charged with two counts of wearing and carrying a concealed deadly weapon and impersonating a police officer. He was being held at Prince George's County Detention Center pending a bail review hearing, police said.
According to state police, a motorist called the College Park barracks at 2: 44 a.m. and told troopers that he was suspicious of a man in a white Chevrolet Lumina with flashing lights who had pulled up behind him on eastbound U.S. 50. When the motorist stopped, the suspect flashed a badge and then drove away.
State and county police arrested Barber at a convenience store on U.S. 301 in Bowie. He was carrying a loaded .40-caliber handgun and volunteer firefighter's badge, police said.
Troopers are asking anyone who was stopped by Barber yesterday morning to call them at 301-345-3101.
