3-year-old boy drowns in Wheaton church's pool

THE BALTIMORE SUN

A 3-year-old Ellicott City boy who wandered from his supervised Sunday school group drowned yesterday in a church pool in Wheaton, Montgomery County police said.

Police were called at noon by members of the Washington Dae Sung Baptist Church in the 800 block of Randolph Road in Wheaton, after David Hahm was found in the swimming pool.

Police said Hahm and a 3-year-old playmate wandered from the Sunday school class about 11: 20 a.m. and headed toward the pool, which is behind a house on the property.

The other boy came back crying to the classroom area about 11: 50 a.m., police said. He led a group of adults to the pool.

The adults began CPR on Hahm, who was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

It was not known how the boys entered the pool area, which is surrounded by a 4-foot-high, chain-link fence, police said. They said the two gates on the fence were padlocked.
