Cooke claims MAPGA by 3

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Ron Cooke closed with a 1-under-par 69 over the Cascades Golf Club course and won the 73rd Middle Atlantic PGA Championship with a 54-hole total of 205 yesterday.

With the original 156-man field cut to 75 for the final round, Cooke, head professional at the Kiskiack Golf Club in Williamsburg, was the only one to finish with three rounds in the 60s.

Mark Fry, of The Homestead, rode the day's low round, a 67, to a second-place finish, 72-69-67208.

Wayne DeFrancesco, of Woodholme CC, was the top Baltimore-area finisher, 71-211.
