Vernon H. Prouse, 90, B&O; manager, bank officer

Vernon H. Prouse, a retired Baltimore & Ohio Railroad freight sales manager who found a second career in banking, died yesterday at his home in Glen Meadows, a Baltimore County retirement community, after surgery to remove a cancerous tumor. He was 90.

Born in Cambridge, Mr. Prouse graduated from Cambridge High School in 1935. He attended evening classes ranging from art to business management at the Johns Hopkins University for many years.

Mr. Prouse went to work for the B&O; in 1930 and retired after a 40-year career, then was a mortgage officer at Baltimore County Savings Bank for more than 10 years, retiring in the early 1980s.

He was a member of the Parkville Kiwanis Club for more than 50 years.

He and his wife, the former Jane Bates, were leaders of the Parkville Teen Center in the 1950s. Mrs. Prouse died in 1992.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. tomorrow at the mausoleum chapel of Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens in Timonium.

Survivors include a son, Donald Prouse of Baltimore; a daughter, Sybil J. MacBeth of Virginia Beach, Va.; a sister, Louise Styron of Baltimore; and four grandchildren.
