Review: Eisenhower Golf Course, Anne Arundel's only county-run links, is undergoing an ambitious face lift. The Maryland Economic Development Corporation, which operates the course located five miles outside of Annapolis and 20 minutes from Baltimore and Washington, brought in Billy Casper Golf Management, Inc., a consulting firm, to oversee the repairs and perform complete turnkey management services.
The championship-style layout, named after an avid golfer who served as the 34th president of the United States, features gradual elevation changes, huge putting surfaces and water hazards on half of its holes.
Construction is currently under way on the teeing areas on the par-5 third hole and No. 9, a 429-yard par 4 which will serve as the finishing hole when the club reverses the front and back nines back to Ed Ault's original design.
Steps are already being taken to repair the patchy spots on some of the fairways and greens and overgrown trees are being trimmed back to "restore the integrity of the course."
Even in its current state, it is obvious that Eisenhower is not your typical municipal track. The course sits on more than 200 acres of rolling woodlands and meanders through tall, hardwood trees, which help provide the challenge as well as a gorgeous setting.
