The Nathan A. Blizzard Memorial 4-H/FFA Dairy Scholarship Fund has been established in memory of a South Carroll High School graduate who died from injuries suffered in a car accident near Frederick in December.

Nathan A. Blizzard, the only son of Melvin L. and Dianne L. Blizzard of Westminster, graduated from South Carroll in 1995. In his senior year, he began attending Catonsville Community College, majoring in animal science. He intended to transfer to the University of Maryland, College Park in 1998.

Blizzard, who was active in local chapters of the 4-H and FFA, learned to love farming by working with his grandfather on his Deer Park Road farm, and also worked for Marlin Hoff at Coldspring Farm in New Windsor. He was active in raising and showing dairy cattle at the Maryland State Fair, Howard County Fair and the Carroll County 4-H/FFA Fair.

His parents established the scholarship in his honor to provide financial assistance to Carroll high school graduates.

The 1998 scholarship was awarded to Mary Ellen Seraydian of Taneytown, who graduated from Francis Scott Key High School in 1995. Seraydian, daughter of Charles and Mary Ann Seraydian, is a senior in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Maryland, College Park. She is majoring in animal and avian sciences.
