Area schools, libraries and literacy programs use volunteers to help children and adults improve reading skills. Among them are:
Lillie Ross Learning Center, 2109 McCulloh St., Baltimore, for a program that resumes in the fall semester, offering one-on-one tutoring for adults and elementary and middle school students. Hours for adults will be 9: 30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the center. Tutoring for younger students will take place from 3: 30 p.m. to 4: 30 p.m. at elementary and middle schools. Baltimore County's adult education program, to work with adults in reading, math, General Educational Development studies and the English for Speakers of Other Languages program. Tutoring takes place during day and evening hours across the county. Information: 410-887-5442.
