Man serving 40 years in shooting gets year for assaulting inmate

Edward F. Sible Jr., who is serving a 40-year prison sentence for shooting a Taneytown pizza delivery-woman last year, was sentenced yesterday in District Court to a consecutive term of one year and one day for assaulting an inmate at the Carroll County Detention Center in February.

Sible, 20, of Harney had probation ended yesterday in two previous cases, one a January 1997 malicious destruction charge for which he received probation before judgment, and the other a February 1996 battery conviction for which he received probation in lieu of a 30-day suspended sentence.

Fire

Union Bridge: Firefighters from New Windsor, Taneytown, Westminster and New Midway in Frederick County assisted Union Bridge at 1: 43 p.m. Tuesday, responding to a house fire in the 100 block of E. Locust St. Units were out 40 minutes.

Taneytown: Firefighters from Harney, Union Bridge, Emmitsburg, and Littlestown and Kingsdale in Adams County, Pa., assisted Taneytown at 1: 53 a.m. Wednesday, responding to smoke in a building in the first block of E. Baltimore St. Units were out one hour and 30 minutes.
