A man who died Thursday night in a fire in North Baltimore was identified yesterday as Leon Woods, 50. His body was found in a second-floor bedroom at the front of a house in the Pen Lucy neighborhood.
Fire officials identified Dessie Mitchell, 75, as the woman who broke her left leg when she jumped from a second-story window to escape the fire in the 3900 block of Greenmount Ave, which was reported to authorities at 9: 21 p.m.
Mitchell was taken by ambulance to Union Memorial Hospital. Fire officials said she was transferred yesterday to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where a hospital spokesman said she was in serious condition.
Authorities have not determined a cause of death for Woods; an autopsy is pending.
Inspector Michael Maybin, a city Fire Department spokesman, said yesterday that investigators had not determined a cause of the fire.
He said it did not appear to be suspicious.
Rudolph Mitchell, 60, who lives in the house, said the fire apparently began in a second-floor closet that housed a washing machine and that the flames quickly spread.
Mitchell said he and his grandson, Joshua Bradley, 9, escaped unhurt by running out the front door.
