Rocky Gap music fest

The Rocky Gap Music Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary this weekend with a lineup of country singers, family activities and an arts and crafts show.

The three-day event, tomorrow through Sunday at Allegany College in Cumberland, features performances by the Mavericks, Kentucky Headhunters, Ruthie & the Wranglers and Marge Calhoun Friday. Saturday's lineup includes Sawyer Brown, Collin Raye, Kevin Sharpe, Lee Ann Womack and Lee Roy Parnell. And stepping on stage Sunday are John Michael Montgomery, Diamond Rio, Chely Wright, Wade Hayes and the Dixie Chicks.

Gates open at 7 a.m. each day and on-site parking is available. The festival site is at Allegany College, Willowbrook Road, 1/2 mile south of Interstate 68. Tickets are $12 Friday, $32 Saturday-Sunday. Call 888-ROCKYGAP.

Harpers Ferry history

Step back in time and witness the Union military occupation of Harpers Ferry in 1864. This weekend, members of the 142nd Pennsylvania Volunteers, a military history group, will demonstrate town life under martial law.

Harpers Ferry suffered constant occupation and action throughout the American Civil War. In August 1864, Harpers Ferry became the launching point for Union Gen. Philip Sheridan's Shenandoah Valley Campaign.

A military camp on Hamilton Street, adjacent to the Shenandoah River, and other programming will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free. Call 304-535-6298.
