An Eastern Shore day care provider who had two infants die in her care has not appealed a state decision to revoke her day care license, according to state officials.

Stacey Russum's license was revoked by the Maryland Department of Human Resources after the state medical examiner ruled July 9 that the two boys accidentally suffocated under a quilt.

Russum, of Stevensville, has until 5 p.m. today to appeal a decision by the department's Child Care Administration to revoke her day care license, according to Elyn Garrett-Jones, a DHR spokeswoman.

Dr. John E. Smialek, state medical examiner, ruled July 9 that a quilt fell over the faces of Matthew Harrison and Ian W. Denny, both 5 months old, and suffocated them.

Russum was cited for caring for more children than her license allowed, failing to check on the babies every 15 minutes while they napped and failing to have cribs for them to sleep in, Garrett-Jones said.

A Queen Anne's County grand jury is slated to consider whether criminal charges should be filed.
