Steve A. Wrabel, 78, railroad company worker

Steve A. Wrabel, a retired railroad company employee, died Saturday of heart failure at St. Joseph Medical Center. The longtime Towson resident was 78.

Mr. Wrabel worked in the purchasing department of CSX Transportation and its predecessors, Chesapeake & Ohio and Baltimore and Ohio railroads, from 1946 to 1987. He joined the B&O; in his native Cleveland and moved to Baltimore in 1965.

After he retired, he worked for John Duer Sons Inc., which has hardware stores in Baltimore and Towson, until 1993.

Mr. Wrabel was a member of the National Railway Historical Society, the Chesapeake & Ohio Historical Society and the Pennsylvania Railroad Technical and Historical Society.

He was a longtime member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, on Church Lane in Cockeysville, where a Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. tomorrow.

He is survived by his wife, the former Loris Murawski, whom he married in 1950; a son and daughter in-law, Frank A. and Lynne Wrabel of Timonium; and two granddaughters.

Jane Ridgely Halbert, 84, registered nurse

Jane Ridgely Halbert, a registered nurse for more than 40 years, died Thursday of cancer at Stella Maris Hospice. She was 84 and lived in Towson.

A lifelong Marylander, Ms. Halbert was raised in Towson and Baltimore and graduated from Western High School in 1932. She attended the Johns Hopkins University and graduated from the Church Hospital nursing school in 1937.

She worked as a nurse at Baltimore City Clinic, Bendix Corp. and the Veterans Administration Hospital in Northeast Baltimore and retired in 1976.

She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. tomorrow at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 1108 Providence Road in Towson, where she was a longtime member.

She is survived by a cousin, David L. Pindell of Cockeysville.
