Internet services firm enhances online product

United Data Systems Inc., a Columbia-based Internet services company, has announced the release of an enhancement to its online product, Maryland Biz-Events, a statewide Internet data base of events of interest to the business community.

Organizations contributing items to the calendar can log on to the site and post their events directly on the Web site.

Software is available to link organizations or companies to the Maryland Biz-Events calendar so that calendar events can automatically be displayed on the posting organization's Web site.

The calendar concept was conceived by the Baltimore/Washington Corridor Chamber of Commerce's economic development committee, with development undertaken by Unity Data.

Biz-Events is a trademark of Unity Data.

Nursing assessments offered at long-term care facilities

National Nursing Assessments Inc. of Ellicott City has begun to offer professional nursing assessments for residents of long-term care facilities in the greater Baltimore area.

The assessments, which are performed by registered nurses and include a progress report on residents' health, are designed to assist families in evaluating the care being received by elderly parents, sick children or disabled family members.

The company was founded by Sharon M. Watts, a registered nurse with 25 years of nursing experience, as a result of her experience with her mother's hospitalizations three years ago.

Builder's 1st Choice expands into York, Pa.

Builder's 1st Choice, a Columbia-based firm handling sales and marketing for new home builders, has expanded into the York, Pa., area, where it will represent Millfield Construction.

Millfield builds single-family homes and duplexes.

The company also offers training, competitive market analyses, advertising and help with land acquisition.


Peter Hu, an Ellicott City resident and director of Information Systems at the University of Maryland department of anesthesiology, has been elected president of the Network Professional Association of Maryland for a two-year term. The association counts more than 200 local members -- all of whom are certified computer network engineers -- and more than 10,000 members worldwide.

Kyri L. Jacobs has been named vice president of Bonnie Heneson Communications Inc., a public relations, advertising, marketing and special events company in Owings Mills. The Columbia resident has been with the company since 1992, most recently as a senior account executive and media buyer. She serves on the board of directors of Careerscope, a Columbia-based nonprofit job search and career development organization.

Ryan F. Ogden has been appointed residential lending officer in the real estate lending division of Provident Bank of Maryland. He will be responsible for developing new business relationships with homebuilders and land developers. His primary territory includes Howard and Anne Arundel counties.
