O'Landa Draper, 34, a five-time Grammy nominee whose demonstrative style as director of a gospel choir was imitated by others, died Tuesday in Nashville, Tenn., of kidney failure.

He was stricken suddenly, said his publicist, Erma Byrd in Los Angeles.

Dr. Gareth M. Green, 67, a Harvard professor who chaired a 1994 National Institutes of Health study of "gulf war syndrome," died Saturday in Boston of a brain tumor.

Former Sgt. Maj. Herbert J. Sweet, 79, who served as the top enlisted Marine during the corps' heaviest fighting in Vietnam, died June 18 of respiratory failure in Alexandria, Va.

Imam al-Haj Salah An Shiwei, 79, who rose from leading a Beijing mosque to head China's state-backed Islamic Association, died Tuesday in Beijing.

Gisella Caccialanza Christensen, 83, a ballerina of the 1930s who danced in films as well as with top companies, died Thursday in San Bruno, Calif., after suffering several strokes.

Thomas Corwin Mendenhall, 88, a historian of rowing and a former president of Smith College, died Saturday in Boston.

Harriet Fonda Warren, 91, who helped spawn the career of her brother, actor Henry Fonda, and her nephew, Peter Fonda, died Thursday in Omaha, Neb. Her involvement with the Omaha Community Playhouse was one of the reasons her brother Henry took up acting.
