Sailing regatta to benefit hospice

THE BALTIMORE SUN

HOSPICE OF Anne Arundel Medical Center is sailing for dollars, in a manner of speaking.

The organization is among six hospice programs that will benefit from this year's Hospice Cup sailing regatta.

The annual charity event will be held Sept. 19. George Collins, who sponsored the Maryland entry, Chessie, in the Whitbread Round the World Race, will be honorary chairman.

The boats will leave from the Naval Academy in Annapolis. Sponsors will earn a spot on a spectator yacht and will be provided breakfast, lunch and expert commentary on the race.

The Anne Arundel hospice's Hospice Cup committee has raised almost $20,000 in sponsorships from $250 to $15,000, said Susan Vogel, manager of the Anne Arundel Medical Center Foundation.

"We have a goal of $50,000, so we're almost halfway there," Vogel said.

Sponsorships will be taken until Sept. 1.
