THE BALTIMORE SUN

Quote: "I'm trying to feel comfortable. I feel comfortable with the guys. I love the guys. I feel like I can be myself here and relax. And the fans have been fair, too." -- Mets catcher Mike Piazza on life in New York.

It's a fact: The Padres' Tony Gwynn is one hit shy of tying Frankie Frisch for 30th on the career list. Gwynn has 2,879 hits.

Who's hot: The Dodgers' Raul Mondesi is batting .380 (27 for 71) with six homers, 18 RBIs, 19 runs and 13 extra-base hits in 17 games hitting in the third spot in the L.A. order.

Who's not: Expos pitcher Shawn Boskie (1-3), an ex-Oriole, allowed hits to six of the first seven Pirates' hitters he faced last night. He hasn't lasted more than four innings in each of his past four starts and has lost three straight decisions.

On deck: Tuesday in Atlanta, the Braves' four-time Cy Young Award winner Greg Maddux (13-3, 1.57) is set to meet Cubs rookie sensation Kerry Wood (8-5, 3.46). Wood struck out 13 and walked six in the Cubs' 5-3 win in 11 innings on May 29.
