Angels update

The Orioles drop in on a third consecutive wild-card contender when they visit the Angels, who have taken four of five games between the two. The Angels have lost 10 of 13. They are currently suffering from injury problems similar to the Orioles, having lost Ken Hill, Jack McDowell and Allen Watson from the rotation. (Watson is now working in the bullpen.) Still, the Angels have hung on to the AL West lead thanks to the Texas Rangers' recent meltdown. Center fielder Jim Edmonds has only one home run in his past 23games. Tim Salmon is without a home run in the past 23 games. The Angels possess a clear advantage in late innings with Troy Percival. The closer has converted 16 of 17 save chances and has an 0.82 ERA in his past 21 appearances. Percival has surrendered seven hits in his past 22 innings pitched. The Angels have won 27 games by one or two runs.
