George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950)

Was born in Dublin. He struggled in his early life and later lived in fTC poverty while trying to get his work published. He kept diaries for 13 years - from age 29 until 42 when his fame became worldwide. Although he is best known for his plays "Pygmalion," and "Androcles" it has been greatly debated as to whether he is as important a dramatist as he was a critic and social commentator. Other plays by Shaw include "Man and Superman" and "Heartbreak House." Shaw received the Nobel Prize for literature in 1925.
