Accused escapee seized 23 years later, FBI says

THE BALTIMORE SUN

A woman who escaped from the Detroit Correctional Center 23 years ago while serving one to five years for armed robbery was arrested at her Prince George's County home yesterday, the Baltimore FBI office reported.

Special Agent David R. Knowlton said Sandra Jean Gaines, 50, was traced to her home in Adelphi after her fingerprints were submitted for a record check after she applied for a job at a Virginia juvenile facility.

Gaines, whose married name is Dastrow, was taken to the Prince George's sheriff's office in Upper Marlboro and was being held pending an extradition hearing.
