Expos update
If the Orioles plan to get well, this is the starting point as they begin a six-game run against the Expos and Florida Marlins. Baseball's lowest payroll, the $11 million Expos were supposed to battle the Florida Marlins and the expansion Arizona Diamondbacks for the National League's worst record this season. They are 30-47, the league's fourth-worst record. Yet the Expos are 14-9 in one-run games. Their bullpen, led by closer Ugueth Urbina, has a 4.40 ERA. Urbina has converted 18 of 22 save chances and is allowing only a .141 average to right-handed hitters. The good news is the Orioles miss Expos ace Carlos Perez. The bad news is they don't get to see former Oriole Shawn Boskie, the No. 5 starter. Outfielders Rondell White and Vladimir Guerrero represent the Expos' offensive core. Guerrero has hit in 16 of 21 games. White homered in three straight games last week.
