Penn State ceramics

THE BALTIMORE SUN

"The Penn State Tradition," opening at Clayworks on Saturday, brings together ceramics by a group of Penn State University instructors and their former students, now alumni.

Curator Tina Gebhart, herself a Penn State alumna and recipient of a Clayworks fellowship, emphasizes the quality, volume of production and work ethic of this group of artists, which includes instructors Chuck Aydlett, David Dontigney, Liz Quackenbush and Chris Staley and 21 of their former students, including Gebhart, Malcolm Mobutu Smith, Marina Kuchinski and Joe Van Zants. Although the show has "tradition" in its title, Gebhart cites "fresh approaches" as a hallmark of the Penn State faculty.

At Baltimore Clayworks, 5706 Smith Ave., Saturday through July 25; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Call 410-578-1919.
