Police suspect string of 14 armed robberies at area garages is the work of one individual

THE BALTIMORE SUN

A string of 14 armed robberies of attendants at downtown parking garages this year appears to be the work of one man, Baltimore police said yesterday.

The robberies -- at garages on Paca, Lombard, Cathedral, Charles and other downtown streets -- have come at different times, but were clustered in the evening hours, say police. All have taken place since January.

"Right now, it's looking like it could be all one guy," said Detective Gordon Carew of the Police Department's robbery unit.

The most recent robbery occurred about 2 p.m. Thursday at the Central Parking System Garage at 16 W. Saratoga St. Police said a robber displayed a silver handgun and demanded cash.

Police said the suspect does not always work alone, typically observes the garage before staging the holdup, and flees on foot. Anyone with information is asked to call the police at 410-396-2636.
