Hot corner

Quote: "I guess the only alternative now is to change personnel. We've tried everyone on this team. I'm getting tired of guys not doing the job. The trade rumors [involving captain Barry Larkin, who is in a 2-for-14 slump] and things like that aren't positives, but we were having problems before that." -- Reds manager Jack McKeon after Cincinnati's fifth straight loss.

It's a fact: The major-league-leading hitting streak of the Phillies' Doug Glanville was halted at 17 games by the Cubs. Glanville was 0-for-4 yesterday, though he did reach base on a fielder's choice.

Who's hot: In their last four games, Diamondbacks starters have a 1.24 earned-run average, allowing six runs and 32 hits in 38 innings, with no homers, the latter setting a team record.

Who's not: During their five-game slide, the Reds have managed to score only nine runs and have committed eight errors, pushing their miscue total for the season to 71, which leads the major leagues.

On deck: After last night's victory over the Mets, Felipe Alou needs just two wins to reach 500 as Expos manager. He is just 24 victories away from passing Buck Rodgers (520) for most ever by a Montreal manager.
