Foes of proposed Westminster bypass to explain views

Members of a regional partnership formed to educate citizens on land use and transportation issues will hold a town meeting today to discuss the proposed Westminster bypass.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars outdoor pavilion on Poole Road.

Opponents of the proposed $200 million project -- a highway to circumvent the traffic congestion along heavily developed Route -- will make presentations. About 50 residents are expected to attend.

The regional partnership sponsoring the event consists of Carroll Life, the Citizens Planning and Housing Association, the Environmental Defense Fund and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.

Carroll Life, a citizen group that has about 100 members, is the most vocal and visible opponent of the bypass.
