Ellicott City accountant is new AACC comptroller
Arthur D. Glass II of Ellicott City recently joined the staff of Anne Arundel Community College as controller, overseeing the maintenance of all college financial accounting systems and supervising the college business office.
Glass brings more than 10 years of experience in internal auditing, management, computer operations and supervision to AACC. Most recently, he was director of general accounting for the State Retirement Agency, where he supervised and coordinated the activities of an 11-person division.
At the Baltimore City Office of Child Support Enforcement, he managed the agency's $1.5 million operating budget and supervised a 60-person division.
Glass earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting from the University of Maryland and is a licensed certified accountant in Maryland.
Three county educators honored by reading program
Two county elementary teachers and a school media specialist were among 30 teachers, media specialists and public librarians honored for their efforts to promote reading during the May 26 Reading by 9 recognition program.
Honored were Kay Campbell, media specialist at Broadneck Elementary; Laura Cawthorne Martien, kindergarten teacher at Mayo Elementary; and Linda Stinchcomb, first-grade teacher at Sunset Elementary.
Sponsored by The Baltimore Sun and WJZ-TV in conjunction with the State Department of Education, the recognition program honors "ongoing efforts to encourage reading through the use of creative programs, events and other literacy-oriented activities that have been incorporated into children's services and programs at both public and school-based libraries throughout central Maryland."
AFS seeks local homes for exchange students
American Field Service Intercultural Programs seeks families to provide living space to students for the 1998-1999 school year. Students from all over the world will arrive in early August to spend the school year with local families.
AFS is a nonprofit high school exchange organization and one of the largest community-based volunteer organizations in the world, existing in more than 50 countries.
