Oct. 9 auction slated for Inn at Buckeystown

THE BALTIMORE SUN

The Inn at Buckeystown, an 1897 Victorian in the nationally registered historic Village of Buckeystown, will be going to auction in the fall, according to Ann F. von Forthuber, president of Auction & Estate Representatives of Towson.

It is scheduled to be auctioned Oct. 9 with a preview scheduled Oct. 3. The inn, which sits on 2 acres, is an hour's drive from Baltimore, near Frederick.

The three-story property has two wraparound porches, a second-floor balcony, nine guest rooms, 11 bathrooms, three working fireplaces, slate roof, commercial kitchen and wine cellar. It also features a center stairway carved of local chestnut.

According to von Forthuber, the inn could be turned into a corporate retreat or residence, or remain a bed and breakfast.

The innkeepers, Dan Pelz and Chase Barnett, are retiring after 18 years of operation, and proceeds of the auction will be donated to the Hospice of Frederick.
