Angels: In a three-game series against Arizona that concluded Thursday night, Darin Erstad went 10-for-14 with four RBIs and five runs scored. The hits included a double, triple and two home runs.

Devil Rays: Third baseman Wade Boggs, on being ejected last week for the first time in his 17-year career after arguing a called third strike with umpire Eric Cooper: "I didn't get over 1,300 walks without knowing the strike zone."

Indians: Cleveland will observe the 50th anniversary of its last World Series championship by honoring several players during a series with the Yankees on June 19-21. They team will retire the No. 21 worn by Hall of Fame pitcher Bob Lemon, although current manager Mike Hargrove will keep it as long as he is with the Indians. "That's been my number since the first day I was in the big leagues," Hargrove said.

Rangers: Tom Hicks was approved as new owner this week. And if his track record as owner of the NHL Dallas Stars is any indication, he won't be afraid to plunge on a big-ticket acquisition for the stretch drive even though the payroll is already $54 million.
