Astros: Carl Everett batted .571 (8-for-14) with seven RBIs in the series with the Tigers.

Cubs: Henry Rodriguez came into the game in an 0-for-11 slump, including six strikeouts in seven at-bats against the Twins. He doubled and scored in his first at-bat and went 2-for-3.

Devil Rays: Pitcher Rolando Arrojo, granted permission earlier this week to leave the Devil Rays to attend to a personal matter, has been in Florida with family members who have left Cuba.

Giants: Brian Johnson extended his career-high hitting streak to 12 games with a single in the fifth.

Indians: The Pirates' Mark Smith hit a liner right past Charles Nagy's right ear and shoulder with one out in the eighth. The ball didn't hit Nagy, but the frightened right-hander lay motionless on his hands and knees as the ball went into center field for a hit.
