Sauces to savor from grandmother

Matthew Costa, a Lutherville native, uses his Italian grandmother's recipes to produce his company's six all-natural pasta sauces, for sale at local gourmet grocery stores and specialty shops. Choose from sun-dried tomato, baby clam, mushroom, green pepper, marinara and my favorite, artichoke. The sauces are quite good, if a bit on the sweet side; and with their attractive labels, Costa's sauces make a nice hostess gift as well. The 25-ounce jar sells for around $7.

If you like 'skim' milk, look for it by name

No, it's not your imagination. Skim milk is back, at least locally. The milk industry finally got permission to get rid of the label "skim" on cartons of fat-free milk. But Cloverland/Green Spring Dairy fielded so many calls from confused customers that it decided to reinstate the words "skim milk" with "fat free" on the current cartons.
