Sally D. Osmond, 53, nurse, real estate agent
Sally Dougherty Osmond, a nurse, real estate agent and outdoor enthusiast, died of cancer Tuesday at Gilchrist Hospice. The Riderwood resident was 53.
The Baltimore native was a graduate of Notre Dame Preparatory School and Bon Secours Hospital School of Nursing. Until becoming ill in September, she had worked at Union Memorial Hospital Outpatient Surgicenter.
She was a volunteer for Project DAWN, a program that provides reconstructive surgery to residents of Guyana, and made one trip there to assist with hand surgery.
She interrupted her nursing career in 1978 to become a real estate agent with Byrnes, Barroll and Gaines Inc., and later with O'Connor, Piper and Flynn. She returned to nursing several years ago.
She enjoyed swimming, hiking, sailing and tennis. She was an avid fan of the Maryland Terrapins lacrosse team, served as a member of the Alumnae Board of Notre Dame Prep and the board of directors of the Roland Run Club, and had been active with the Parents Association of Riderwood Elementary School.
A memorial Mass was offered Saturday.
She is survived by two sons, Michael Blake Osmond of Baltimore and Stephen Patrick Osmond of Virginia; a daughter, Nancy Jarrett Osmond of Baltimore; her mother, Dolores Coroum Dougherty of Baltimore; a brother, Michael Dougherty of
Bethesda; and two sisters, Nancy Poole of Baltimore and Mary Van Fossan of Easton.
Mabel Eschmann, who worked as a companion to the elderly for more than 30 years, died Wednesday of a heart attack at St. Joseph Medical Center. She was 86 and a resident of the Edenwald retirement community in Towson.
Born in Weldon, Pa., and educated in Philadelphia and its suburbs, Mrs. Eschmann had lived most of her adult life in Towson.
When her husband died in 1966, she decided to become a companion to the elderly, providing respite care for families, and worked until last year.
For 58 years, she was a member of Towson Presbyterian Church, where services were held Saturday.
The former Mabel Broomall married William G. Eschmann in 1930.
She is survived by a daughter, Eleanor E. Macqueen of Towson; two sons, William G. Eschmann II of King George, Va., and Theodore W. Eschmann of Hunt Valley; a brother, William Broomall of Newtown, Pa.; four sisters, Marie Grace of South Venice, Fla., Barbara Mullens of Levittown, Pa., Jane D'Aversa of Yardley, Pa., and Kathryn Brown of Bradenton, Fla.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Wesley E. Wilson, a retired manufacturing production supervisor, died Wednesday at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center of complications from a fall at his Towson home. He was 76.
Born in Baltimore, he attended public schools, including City College.
He retired in 1988 from the Belko Corp., a rubber manufacturer where he was a production supervisor and estimator. He had a long career in manufacturing, beginning at the Bendix Corp. and including the Glenn L. Martin Corp., where he was an airplane mechanic, and the Holtite Corp. and Cat's Paw, rubber manufacturers. When Cat's Paw closed its Baltimore plant more than 25 years ago, he joined Belko.
"It was his work with the National Alliance of Businessmen and Cat's Paw that was most rewarding" to him, said his son, Wesley L. Wilson of Baltimore. "He was able to provide employment opportunities for many who were unemployed or underemployed" through training and advancement programs for apprentices.
During World War II, his work at Martin took him to Africa, Asia and the Middle East. He became ill with dengue fever in India and upon returning home he was drafted by the Army. He served in the Pacific.
In 1945, Mr. Wilson married the former Edna Shewbridge, who died in 1989.
Services were Saturday.
He is also survived by two other sons, Ross J. Wilson of Baltimore and Richard E. Wilson of Boston; and two grandchildren.
Joseph F. Hergenrather, 85, crane operator
Joseph Ford Hergenrather, a Towson native and retired crane operator, died of pneumonia and emphysema Monday at Anne Arundel Medical Center. The Stevensville resident was 85.
He attended Baltimore County schools and worked in his family's drugstore as a teen-ager.
He later worked as a crane operator at Bethlehem Steel Corp.'s Key Highway shipyard and retired in 1976. He moved to the Eastern Shore in 1979.
He was a member of St. Christopher Roman Catholic Church in Chester, Kent Island Elks Lodge No. 2576 and the Island Idlers, a social club.
A memorial service is being planned.
He is survived by his wife, the former Dulica M. Anderson, whom he married in 1943; two sons, Joseph J. Hergenrather of Floridaand Michael D. Hergenrather of Claymont, Del.; a daughter, Louise E. Shafer of Lawrenceville, Ga.; a sister, Ella Mackey Bussey of Towson; and two grandchildren, Amy Price of Glen Burnie and Shaw R. Schafer of Lawrenceville.
Benjamin Harris Brewster, 72, Baugh Chemical official
Benjamin Harris Brewster, who had been vice president of the old Baugh Chemical Co. of Baltimore, died Tuesday of heart failure while living in Scottsdale, Ariz. He was 72.
The native of Baltimore County attended county schools and served in the Marine Corps from 1943 to 1945 during World War II. He graduated from Princeton University in 1947.
Mr. Brewster was vice president of Baugh Chemical from 1947 to 1963, when he moved to Oklahoma City to work for an oil company. He retired and moved to Scottsdale in 1990.
He married Katherine Kendall Bartlett in 1949; they divorced in 1963. He married Harriet Dodson in 1964.
A memorial service is scheduled for June 23 in Scottsdale.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Benjamin H. Brewster Jr. of Norman, Okla.; a daughter, Diana Doswell of Dunkirk; a brother, William M. Brewster of Brooklandville; and four grandchildren.
Laura JoAnn Perrine, 63, ex-Havre de Grace resident
Laura JoAnn Perrine, formerly of Havre de Grace, died Thursday of complications of heart surgery at the Charleston (W.Va.) Area Medical Center. She was 63 and lived in Vienna, W.Va.
She had lived in Havre de Grace for 30 years, returning to her native Vienna in 1993.
While living in Maryland, the former Laura JoAnn Crouser was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church of Churchville.
Franklin D. Perrine, her husband of 41 years, died in 1995.
Services were Saturday.
She is survived by a son, Jay Perrine of Swiftwater, Pa.; a daughter, Rebecca Fuller of Baltimore; a brother, Larry Crouser of Smyrna; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
