Pecan pie is easy to make, easier to eat

Pecan pie is a great, decadent picnic dessert. It needs no refrigeration and tastes wonderful at room temperature.

Easy As Pie Pecan Pie

3 eggs, beaten

1 cup sugar

1 cup corn syrup

2 teaspoons vanilla

3 tablespoons butter, melted

1 1/2 cups pecan halves

1 9-inch unbaked pie crust

Combine first 5 ingredients but do not overbeat. Add pecans, pour into pie crust. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 45-55 minutes.

For bacon fans stripped of time

It was an idea whose time had to come. Once we no longer had three minutes in the morning to cook bacon in the microwave, precooked bacon was inevitable. Of course, you pay for convenience ($2.99 for 2.1 ounces or 14 slices). But Oscar Mayer's Ready-to-Serve Bacon tastes as good as if you had cooked it yourself, frozen it and then reheated it -- which is good, but not as good as if you fried it up fresh. The biggest plus: You don't have much cleanup. It's available at Giant and Safeway.
