Adam Decker, a second-year assistant professional at Caves Valley Golf Club, shot 34-3569 and claimed one of four available places during the open qualifier for this week's Kemper Open at Argyle Country Club.
Decker, 23, making his first "four-spot" attempt, had four birdies, three of them on putts inside of 5 feet, over the wind-swept par 36-3571 Silver Spring course.
With no playoff necessary, the other three places went to Michael Muehr, a former Duke University player and current Nike Tour member from Great Falls, Va., who had a bogey-free tour of 34-3266 for the hilly 6,500-yard course; Fred Widicus, Annandale, Va., a Hooters Tour player, 33-3669, and Noah Zelnik, a teaching professional at the Concord CC in New York's Catskills region, 35-3469.
Miguel Rivera of Bel Air birdied the first hole with a sand wedge shot from 60 yards to six inches and won the alternate's spot in a three-way playoff among 70 shooters.
