ARUNDEL HIGH School's class of 1998 can be proud of its accomplishments.
Graduating seniors have been awarded more than $3 million in scholarships. Students have been accepted at a selection of colleges, technical schools and employment positions. The class also reached a variety of athletic goals, including this year's state championships in wrestling and baseball, several county and regional championships, musical, dramatic and community awards.
Archbishop Spalding High School honored its graduating class at the annual senior awards banquet last week.
Seventy-two students were recognized for receiving academic and athletic scholarships worth nearly $4 million.
Varied awards were presented for community and school leadership. Frank Morgan was honored as first in class. Sara Belgard and Katie Royal shared recognition as second in class.
Spalding's graduation was held Saturday at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro. The presiding celebrant was the Rev. Michael Callaghan. Bridgett Gallagher presented the senior address to the 204 graduates.
We hear so many stories about problems with youth and with education. At least once a year it is heartwarming and encouraging to rejoice in the achievements of young people and to wish them well as they go on to college, careers and life.
