The next-to-last program of David Zinman's 13-year tenure as music director of the Baltimore Symphony should be one of the best this season. Zinman will be joined by violinist Hilary Hahn in the greatest of all works for violin and orchestra, Beethoven's Violin Concerto in D major.

The Baltimore-born Hahn recently turned 17, but she is already considered one of the most interesting violinists around. Her first recording, released last year, of some of Bach's solo partitas and sonatas, was majestic, musically insightful and brilliantly played. My guess is that she will be no less successful as an interpreter of the Beethoven concerto.

The program includes Vaughan Williams' "Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis" and Schubert's Symphony No. 3. The concerts take place in Meyerhoff Hall on June 5 and 6 (8 p.m.) and June 7 (3 p.m.). Tickets, available by calling 410-783-8000, are $17-$53.
