Police said yesterday that they are seeking a man who fired several shots at an officer in East Baltimore Monday night.
The man, who missed the officer and his patrol car, left behind two handguns and a mask as he fled, police said.
Police said Officer Thomas P. Bracken, a member of the force for three years who is assigned to the Northeastern District, was driving back to the precinct from police headquarters downtown and was in the 1400 block of E. Fayette St. about 11: 20 p.m. when he heard several shots coming from the 200 block of N. Caroline St.
Bracken turned onto Caroline Street, and a man on a bicycle heading toward his car began firing at the officer, police said.
As Bracken stopped and radioed for help, the gunman jumped off the bicycle and ran toward North Bond Street, where he dropped two handguns -- one of them a .380 Taurus semiautomatic pistol -- and a mask, police said.
Police also recovered 22 large-caliber shell casings at the scene.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Southeastern District at 410-396-2422.
