Astros: Richard Hidalgo left in the fourth as a precautionary measure due to a slight strain of his right hamstring.

Braves: The starting rotation of Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, John Smoltz, Denny Neagle and Kevin Millwood is 30-7. Shortstop Walt Weiss sat out his fourth consecutive game with a sore left hamstring. He's listed as day-to-day.

Cardinals: Mark McGwire has a homer every 11.60 at-bats in his career, ahead of Babe Ruth's career record of one each 11.76. St. Louis has been outscored 46-26 in the first inning.

Cubs: Through 50 games Chicago is 28-22. Last season Chicago was 19-31 through 50 games.

Diamondbacks: Matt Williams was scratched from the lineup because of a bruised left palm. Andy Fox, scheduled to start at second, replaced him at third.

Dodgers: Hideo Nomo walked seven three other times, the last Aug. 10, 1996, at Cincinnati. Nomo has never won in the Astrodome (0-3 with a 4.55 ERA in five starts). Los Angeles is 8-4 in one-run games.

Expos: Mark Grudzielanek and Rondell White have started all 49 of Montreal's games.

Padres: Greg Vaughn has homered at least once in eight consecutive series.

Phillies: Gregg Jefferies has 20 hits in his past 51 at-bats (.392).
