Cardinals: Brian Jordan had six straight hits before flying out in the second. Five of Ron Gant's 10 hits off left-handers have been homers.

Diamondbacks: Willie Blair, 16-8 last year with the Tigers, needed 10 starts to get his first win. Arizona scored 10 runs in his seven losses. Blair is 1-4 against the Pirates. Manager Buck Showalter said Andy Benes, who pitched seven innings Sunday, would stay in Phoenix rather than make a trip to Florida for two games against the Marlins. Kelly Stinnett was 1-for-4, extending his franchise-record hitting streak to 11 games.

Dodgers: Before switch-hitting Bobby Bonilla batted for his first time as a Dodger Saturday, the team hadn't had a starter in the cleanup spot bat left-handed since Henry Rodriguez on July 8, 1994, a span of 536 games.

Marlins: Florida is 6-19 when it scores first. Edgar Renteria has 11 hits in his past 22 at-bats.
