Padres: An MRI exam on Tony Gwynn's twisted right knee showed no cartilage damage, and he expects to return by Tuesday. Gwynn took himself out of Friday night's game after reaching on an error in his third at-bat. Team officials said Gwynn felt pain in his previous at-bat.

Brewers: Marquis Grissom missed his third straight game because of a strained buttocks muscle. Milwaukee is 8-1 in Scott Karl's nine starts.

Cubs: Mark Grace singled twice to pass Billy Herman and move into 10th place on the team's career list with 1,259. Brant Brown, a defensive replacement, singled in the ninth to extend his hitting streak to a career-high 13 games.
