Devil Rays update

Expansion Tampa Bay makes its first visit to Baltimore, marking the Orioles' first four-game series of the season. The Orioles won two of three in St. Petersburg, Fla., last weekend thanks to four hitless innings of relief on Friday and Mike Mussina's shutout on Saturday. The Orioles held the Rays to a .170 batting average and six runs in three games. This time, however, the Orioles will have to face rookie Arrojo, who has two shutouts in his past three starts. Center fielder Quinton McCracken has been a terror, too. The switch-hitter, who is batting .337, ranks in the league's top 10 in batting, doubles, hits and outfield assists. By contrast, first baseman Fred McGriff is stuck in a 1-for-29 slump over his past seven games. The Devil Rays play well enough -- they were tied with Atlanta for the fewest errors in the majors, led the AL in sacrifice bunts and ranked in the top four in pitching, hitting and fielding through Sunday -- but lack explosiveness and a bullpen.
