Hot corner

Quote: "I think some of the guys mention stuff in the dugout when we're in the lead. Personally, it's tough to go up and try to hit home runs. Shoot, I'd probably get jammed on a changeup."

Braves left fielder Ryan Klesko about the club's record home run streak.

It's a fact: The Giants' Bill Mueller went 0-for-4 in the second game of a doubleheader and had his 17-game hitting streak, the longest in the majors this season, come to an end.

Who's hot: The Dodgers' Raul Modesi has hit three homers in the past two games since being moved into the No. 2 spot in the batting order. The Phillies' Doug Glanville has a 12-game hitting streak and has hit safely in 26 of his past 27 games.

Who's not: Cardinals pitcher Cliff Politte, a 54th-round draft pick who made the club with a 4-1 record and 1.10 ERA in spring training, lasted two innings on Wednesday night and has given up 23 runs and 33 hits in his past five starts. He also killed a rally by missing a squeeze sign. Yesterday, he was optioned to Triple-A Louisville. Reds first baseman Sean Casey is in an 0-for-17 slide.

On deck: In the pitching matchup of the night, the Braves' Denny Neagle (Arundel) takes his 4-1 record to Houston to face the Astros' Jose Lima, who is 6-1 with a 2.82 ERA and is 3-0 in his nTC past three starts.
