Arundel's Justin Bell posted the biggest win of his career yesterday, eliminating defending Class 4A state champion and eighth-ranked Chesapeake, 10-1, in the first round of the Class 4A East region playoffs.
Third-ranked Arundel (17-4) will host Glen Burnie (7-10), which had a first-round bye, at 4 p.m. today.
Bell, who is 8-0 this spring and 14-1 in two varsity seasons, worked the first five innings giving up just two hits, striking out and walking two.
The win was his second this season over the defending champs, and once again a six-run inning, the fourth, sparked the victory over Chesapeake ace Ray Wagner (6-3), who gave up 10 hits and nine runs in five innings.
The Wildcats (17-4) got seven hits from their first three batters. Leadoff man Todd Heron had three, scored twice, and batted in a run.
Shortstop Hector Guadalupe had two hits including a double, RBI and run scored.
