Mariners: On the day Mark McGwire of St. Louis hit his 400th career homer, Ken Griffey hit his 308th. Griffey homered into the third deck in right field for the 18th time in his career and for the second time this season. Griffey is 6-for-10 with three homers against Woody Williams in his career. David Segui's three doubles marked the 13th time it had been done by a Mariners player. Right fielder Ryan Radmanovich threw out Alex Gonzalez at home plate in the first when he attempted to score on Mike Stanley's single.

Red Sox: Troy O'Leary has a career-high 13-game hitting streak. His four RBIs tied a career best. Last night's 14-3 win was Boston's highest run total since an 18-4 win over Detroit last July 14.

Royals: Chris Haney threw 41 pitches in the first and had his ERA climb from 7.36 to 8.49. Royals and Red Sox benches and bullpens emptied after Kansas City's Jose Offerman was tagged out forcefully by Boston catcher Jason Varitek during a rundown the sixth. Royals reliever Jamie Walker hit Varitek the next time he came to the plate, and both teams were warned.
