Four-story fall injures man at county building

A 46-year-old Baltimore man fell four stories while cleaning the exterior windows of a county office building on Riva Road outside Annapolis on Wednesday, fracturing both legs and suffering internal injuries, county police and fire officials said.

Lloyd Yates of the 900 block of Payson St. was listed in serious but stable condition yesterday at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

Yates apparently forgot to tie a safety rope before lowering his stool from the roof of the Heritage Building in the 2000 block of Riva Road just after 2: 30 p.m., police said.

Battalion Chief John M. Scholz, county EMS/Fire/Rescue spokesman, said Yates fell about 50 feet onto grass. he said Yates may have suffered spine and head injuries.

Scholz said the grassy area had been converted from a stone surface during a recent renovation.
