Friday, May 8

6:30 a.m. - 8 a.m. The Preakness Celebration Hot Air Balloon Festival kicks off with a Media Balloon Flight from Rash Field at the Inner Harbor. More than 30 gigantic hot air balloons drift through the Baltimore skies. Free.

4 p.m.- 9 p.m. Mangia, mangia! at the all-you-can-eat Baltimore Magazine Pasta Dinner at the Sheraton Inner Harbor Hotel (300 South Charles St.). Spaghetti, salad fixings, and dessert, and meet nine-time New York City Marathon winner and World Championship gold medalist Grete Waitz (6:30 p.m.) $10 per person, $5 for kids under 12.

5 p.m. 98 Rock presents Drumfish and Love Riot at the 10th Annual Bud Light Nights concert series on Water Street. $5

5:30 p.m. More than 35 colorful hot air balloons lift up and away from Oregon Ridge Park (Exit 20B off of I-83). Free.

Saturday, May 9

6:30 a.m.- 8 a.m. The weekend-long Hot Air Balloon Race continues as magical hot air balloons, including the official Maryland State balloon, fill the hills of Druid Hill Park (Exit 7 off of I-83 near the Baltimore Zoo). Free.

8 a.m. The 5th Annual Fila 5-K Preakness Run. More than 800 runners race on a flat course, beginning at Rash Field and continuing through the streets of South Baltimore. Call 410-377-8882 for a race application. Entry fees are $15 in advance and $20 on race day. Free to spectators.

11 a.m. The 25th Annual Preakness Parade is a lively procession of marching units, colorful floats and helium balloon characters on Charles and Pratt streets in downtown Baltimore. Live coverage on WMAR-TV NewsChannel 2. Free.

12:30 p.m. The Pimlico Special. Watch the nations top older thoroughbreds compete in the 33rd Running of the Pimlico Special at Pimlico Race Course (Exit 10B off of I-83). Ticket prices vary. Call 410-542-9400 for details.

1 p.m. - 9 p.m. The Baltimore Sun BalloonGlow and Country Concert at Oregon Ridge Park is a country music extravaganza, with WPOC-FM, headliner Neal McCoy, and popular newcomer Michael Peterson. Picnic at Oregon Ridge throughout the afternoon while enjoying country music and plenty of children's activities. An illuminated finale of 30 hot air balloons tops the evening. Tickets are $12.50 in advance at Giant Food stores or $15 through TicketMaster at 410-481-SEAT. $20 day of show. Kids under 12 free. Call the WPOC Listener Line at 410-889-9393, Ext. 62 for details. 7 p.m. 92Q presents a "Saturday Night Fever" tribute at the 10th Annual Bud Light Nights concert series on Water Street. Cost to be determined.

6:30 a.m. - 8 a.m. Mother's Day Balloon Launch at Oregon Ridge Park (Exit 20B off of I-83). Free.

Monday, May 11

Noon Phillips Harborplace challenges other downtown restaurant waiters and waitresses to a wacky obstacle course in the Phillips Preakness Trayfecta. This friendly battle between Baltimore's best servers takes place at an outdoor cafe setting at the Harborplace Amphitheatre. Call 800-HARBOR-1 for details. Free.

Noon The Pee Wee Preakness showcases Baltimore City schoolchildren as little jockeys competing on hobby horses for prizes and candy at Federal Hill. For more details, call 410-837-4636. Free.

Noon Celebrate a Maryland tradition - crab picking - with local business, media, and sports celebrities as they race against the clock and each other to see who can pick the most crabmeat in three minutes at the Phillips Preakness Celebrity Crab Picking Contest. 3 p.m.- 5 p.m. The Great Schooner Race sails across Baltimore's Inner Harbor as several tall ships race to and from Fort McHenry. Catch a glimpse of this exciting regatta from the Harborplace promenade. Free.

5 p.m. The Colt 104.3 presents Transfuzion at the 10th Annual Bud Light Nights concert series on Water Street. $5
