Yesterday's Anne Arundel County championship game at Glen Burnie was canceled because of poor field conditions from this week's rains.
With region playoffs scheduled to start tomorrow, the game could not be rescheduled. And so, the North Division winner, Northeast, and South winner, Arundel, have been declared county co-champions.
Host Glen Burnie did a fine job getting the field ready for yesterday's game, but a shower just before game time provided too much water for the diamond to absorb.
Earlier, on April 22, No. 3-ranked Northeast blanked No. 5 Arundel, 10-0.
Both teams will focus their attention now on the region playoffs. Arundel (14-5) will travel to county rival Chesapeake (10-7) tomorrow afternoon in a Class 4A East first-round game. The winner will take on top-ranked Glen Burnie in the second round on Monday.
The regular-season meeting was a slugfest that Arundel won, 16-8, over the No. 8 Cougars.
Northeast made the jump to Class 3A this season after previously competing in Class 2A. The Eagles (14-2) have a first-round bye and then visit powerful Northern-Calvert County on Monday.
Northern, which moved down to Class 3A this season, won three straight Class 4A state titles before Chesapeake broke the string in last year's region playoffs.
